No Coffee No Tea -Yerba Mate
Yerba Mate |
Well, I for one am not a big fan of coffee. I guess people think of tea VS coffee when one has to choose, but there's actually a lot of alternatives to caffeine out there.
Yerba Mate, which is one of them, is what I want to introduce to you guys today. Unfortunately for you guys though, I haven't seen this on sale anywhere in Malaysia.
I got to know about mate through my Argentinian colleague, yerba mate is a widely consumed drink in South America and has a very exotic flavour to it. Mate is prepared by filling a container, typically a gourd, about three-quarters full with dry leaves (and twigs) of the mate plant, and filling it up with water at a temperature of 70–80 °C (158–176 °F), hot but not boiling. Sugar may or may not be added; and the mate may be prepared with cold water.
Apart from giving you a strong energy boost, yerba mate is supposedly quite healthy as well. Life is too short to be spent on coffee alone, so get out there and try something you have not before! :)

Direction
I guess every blogger reach a point in our lives whereby we start to seriously think what our blog should be about. Well, it should be a question that you seek to answer if you really enjoy blogging.
My blog started out as kind of a joke. It evolved to become a channel for me to understand other blogger better. As my work is on digital marketing, having a blog gives the opportunity to think about a client problem from another perspective.
Now, I have reached a point where I am contented with all that I have come to learn about blogging. And I wonder where do I go from here.
My neighbour, aka Little Joana, told me to write about her on my blog. She is a ballerina, a great designer, and an amazing friend. She showed me some of her ballerina photos, and that inspires me to write a series on ballet.
Once I am hook on that idea, I cannot stop. Ideas rush into my head like the gate to Niagara Falls has been opened and I finally see the light. Ok maybe a little too dramatic, but you get the idea.
I am really excited with this new direction for my blog. I want to stop blogging about stuff that everyone else are already talking about, and blog about stuff that I think is really worthwhile to explore, and topics that can be interesting, but people are not aware of in Malaysia and Singapore.
So how, are you excited for this direction of mine as well? I am really looking forward to share with you beautiful things in this world worth cherishing and celebrating.
This post may sound serious, but the stuff I have in my head to write about are not...erm, ok, half of them are pretty serious, the rest are just wacky, haha.

Skin Care: Top 5 Myth on Skin Whitening
Asian women are OBSESSED with skin whitening. Being a Chinese myself, I am secretly obsessed with it as well. Haha. I have many European colleagues, and they simply don't get the whole obsession with getting fairer ;p
There is this popular chines saying : “一白遮三丑”, literally translated "One white covers up three ugliness", which means, if you are 10% fair, it covers up your other 30% ugliness. Or something like that. ( don't take my translation literally, as recently I have been told by a certain person that my chinese sucks. *shrug*)
CNN has a good article on why this obsession with skin whitening. My take on this is that, in ancient time, the Chinese Dynasty was the biggest empire in Asia Pacific region, and their cultural influence goes deep and far in countries like Korea, Japan, Vietnam, Malaysia etc. And along with many other cultural influence, beauty perspective is one of them. Being fair has been and still is perceived as being a noble.
Why am I suddenly jumping on to this topic actually? Well, I am handling a few projects at work recently and they all have to do with Skin Whitening one way or another. Skin whitening is offered as a benefit in skin care, cosmetics, beauty drinks etc.
Here's a photo on what I do at work (haha, are you jealous now?):
Anyway, back to the topic of skin whitening. I think younger consumers are more informed nowadays thanks to the internet. But still, there could be one of those myths that you hear passed down from generation, and you are never sure whether they are true or not.
So check out the list below:
- Using skin whitening products can damage your skin.
- Regular use of whitening product will make your skin sensitive to light.
- Natural ,homemade skin whiteners are safer than commercially-produced skin care.
- If a skin whitening regime works for my friend, it will work for me.
- As soon as my skin turns the exact shade I want, I can stop following my skin whitening regime.
So..how many of those do you subscribe to, and what do you really know about them. Check out this article here for the real deal.
Tell me more myths that you hear about in the comment box below! :D

Have a healthy Chinese New Year 2014!
Chinese New Year 2014 is just around the corner. Families all over Malaysia are busy stocking up on food such as soft drinks, seafoods, snacks, cookies etc. But seriously, am I the only one who think that these food are way too unhealthy?
Pretty sure I am no the first or only one. While at the same time I myself enjoy all these junk food as well, haha. So what should we do? Well, maintaining a balanced diet is always the key.
If you are a Chinese (like me), then I am sure you are not foreign to the concept of "heaty" or "cold" food. Simply apply the same logic to your CNY meal, and while this is not gonna guarantee you to be free from that annoying sore throat, but hey, at least it's better than nothing. (╯▅╰)
If you're a boss, you should share this infographic with your staff too, so that not everyone take MC immediately after their Chinese New Year break. lol
